And because I KNOW he's just gonna try and overanalyze this, it's a joke, Zach. Laugh.

This must be one of those Onion-type websites, so the parody must be good.

You can laugh all you want (and the story is quite funny), but Sudoku has been the subject of a handful of gameshows in the UK during the last year.

Actually, it's an Onion-type website where the parody is pretty bad.  They tend to be one-joke premises stretched to news-story length by bad writers.  Quite often the initial joke is so slight that your first reaction is puzzlement rather than laughter.  For example, one of the wacky-funny stories on the site right now is the rumor that Vincent the Dog will have his own backstory on an upcoming episode of Lost.  They include a lot of fake quotes from fake fan sites.  This has been an actual rumor for some time now on real fan sites, so where's the humor?

For me it was in the picture of 81 teeny celebrity squares. The rest of it, not so much. But the picture was pretty funny.

But then we remember "Celebrity Bingo" (with the Charley Weaver Memorial Free Space) and "Celebrity Rubik's Cube"...

If this had a two hour slot, they could introduce the celebs, explain the rules and still have ten minutes to play the game.
Let's Make a Deal was the first show to air on Buzzr. 6/1/15 8PM.

You may have missed my point.  I was referring to their story about Lost, which is essentially true despite being filled with fake quotes from fake sites.

Their Celebrity Sudoku story was a better initial joke, and the picture was funny, but the story itself was typical of their bad writing.  To paraphrase:

Celebrity Sudoku was determined to be hard to play.  "Celebrity Sudoku is hard to play" said a spokesman.  Another person said, "Celebrity Sudoku is hard to play."  Someone else added, "Yeah, it took a long time.  It was really hard to play."  Finally, yet another spokesman said, "We're going to try to make it easier to play."

Writing fake news copy, especially for humorous intent, is a lot harder than it looks.  This is why we're subjected to such awful April Fools jokes every year.

HAHAHAHAHA!

In seriousness, a game show based on Su Doku would be interesting.  Just as long as I'm not a contestant (I've played that game in various papers here.  Damned headache to figure out).

Believe it or not, somebody's going to try it as an audience call-in.  (NO JOKE!)

The link's broken, but the Brits seem to be overrun with this kind of thing lately.  It seems like an el cheapo quiz channel seems to be starting each week on the Sky Digital satellite system (with production values that make the old GSN interactive shows look first-rate) and even an all-night cheapo call-in quiz on the ITV network.  The chances of anyone winning big prizes are remote, but as long as suckers keep calling in on the UK equivalent to our 900 phone lines, the people behind these schemes keep collecting the money (and perhaps more pertinent, as long as infomercials are banned from the over-the-air commercial channels), it won't be going away over there any time soon.
